What is Hallux Valgus?

Hallux Valgus is the medical term for what is best known as bunions, a deviation of the base of the big toe outwards, in other words, a bone deformity. This can cause discomfort when wearing shoes, walking and everyday activity since friction occurs between the foot (Hallux Valgus) and the shoe at every step.

What are the causes?

This deformation can be due to several causes such as heredity, shoes with heels, shoes that are too narrow and have a pointed toe, flat feet, etc. It can even be due to other diseases like polyarthritis, poliomyelitis or other rheumatological diseases.

What are the signs and symptoms?

• Redness and inflammation

• Presence of horn on the side of the big toe

• Irritation at the place of deformation

• Pain in the big toe joint

• Difficulty finding shoes that do not exert pressure on the feet
